Alberta Avant-Garde Styled Shoot

We often describe our rocky mountains as romantic – which of course, they are. But there’s a raw beauty to our landscape that also lends itself a modern appeal – an aesthetic that is rough, jagged, all-encompassing yet surmountable. Attainable. Never ending. There’s an energy from the mountains that are indescribable – as indescribable as love itself.

Today’s inspired elopement shoot from Calgary wedding photographer O’Brien Originals is a shoot influenced by the wild and vivid wonder of the mountains. The views are powerful and bold, and so are real live couple Sam and Erika, who brought their own modern approach to style, giving this shoot so much life. In rugged grooms attire from Calgary wedding suit store Ed Williams Mens Wear, and flowers from Calgary wedding florist Creative Edge Flowers, we love the texture of this shoot. From the photographer:

Being raised by the ocean in Australia, I try and make the most of the mountains every opportunity I get. The vibe of this mock elopement was bringing a modern edge to the wild views Alberta is known for. I visited Johnston Canyon and fell in love with the dramatic and bold backdrops and instantly began dreaming of a styled shoot with romantic moodiness.

Real life engaged couple Sam + Erika were the perfect fit this vision, and with an intimate team of Calgary vendors it was certain to be a success. The goddess of flowers Rhonda at Creative Edge Flowers knocked the florals out of the park as per usual with a stunning display of pinks and lush greens in the most badass bouquet a bride could ever want! The hair master Rylee from Botega Salon + Gallery perfectly showcased the fresh florals with Erika’s gorgeous hairstyle. Ed Williams Menswear went above and beyond in ensuring Sam was looking as dapper as can be in a bold off-electric blue suit.  All the items for the picnic were purchased from various thrift shops and tied together perfectly, to really showcase a modern vintage flare with the “twist on traditional” visuals that O’Brien Originals photography and films is known for.
