From the photographer:

As a wedding photographer here in Calgary, Alberta, I’ve had a couple LGBTQ couples who were completely head over heels in love but never felt comfortable with allowing me to share their stories online. This has been so sad to be, however I will always respect my clients’ wishes. So, after a couple years of shooting LGBTQ weddings, I decided to shoot at least one LGBTQ wedding shoots per year to raise awareness of what love really looks like. This year, we did a casting call for a real lesbian couple to be models in our city at again, no lesbian couple signed up. We did have a lot of interest but no actual lesbian couples. This lead me to either not do the shoot as planned or ask two wonderful models to stand in for them. We decide to do the ladder and I am so glad we did. The few photos I’ve posted have opened the door for LGBTQ couples in our city to see that its beautiful, what our city and wedding industry supports them and we want them to feel comfortable being in love in public. – Christy

From the Planner/Designer:

“I just wanted to showcase a really feminine vibe! And longing for spring when I was planning the design I just wanted everything flowers!! At the time I hadn’t seen many same sex couples featured in the industry so I wanted to take on that challenge. I wanted to eliminate charger plates and excess decor items and focus on the freshness of flowers, greenery and the beauty of live elements. I wanted move away from traditional archways and venue aesthetics and use a blank canvas for the flowers, tapestries and brides to pop.

The strong feminine “vogue” shots in the middle of Stephen avenue paired with the sweet Romance amongst roses and ranunculus was a perfect combo in my mind.”

I reached out to her initially to do a shoot here in Calgary because her work is breathtaking and inspires me. I truly try not to be influenced by others but see to be inspired. So, we mentioned same sex ladies and I was like, HELL YEAH, we need more of that in our city and I would be honoured to capture it.  – Chelsea
