From the Creative Team

Inspired by Jan Brueghel’s Flowers in a Wooden Vessel oil painting from 1603, we created an editorial with a dark background, rich crimsons and amber tones to reflect the moods found in this Flemish painter’s work. The year 2020 has faced us with challenges that we could have never anticipated, and I found myself pulled toward renaissance works of art, notably still lifes. A still life is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which are natural such as food, flowers, plants, etc. Since I was spending more time inside, creating still lifes seemed like a natural transition.

The art work ‘Flowers in a Wooden Vessel’ caught my attention because of its contrast and moody aesthetic while depicting wild, romantic and bright florals. We thought this was the perfect inspiration for any bride planning an intimate winter celebration.

Alex of Flower Baby Floristry brought the colour palette to life while adding a modern-day element to the design. She created a swooping C shape to frame the bride and groom during the ceremony and create a wild backdrop for the portraits.

Veronique from Rebecca Chan Weddings & Events designed a moody tablescape fit for the king and queen style bride and groom. With goblets, gold leaf chargers and a navy velvet table cloth, it was as if each guest was transported back to the renaissance for dinner.
