Sophisticated and Glamourous Calgary Garden Party Wedding

Scroll down for photos and tidbits of details from the wedding planner, Claudette Hogan of Claudette Marie Events.

Victoria and Quinn are such an amazing couple, and I was almost as excited to see their photos as they were! The majority of their wedding planning was via email as this power couple were travelling all over the USA for work. Although this was not ideal, we became almost like pen pals, filling each other in on what was coming up and what we needed to get done.

The plan was to gather all the wedding items at Victoria’s parents home in Calgary and to have the ceremony and dance outside at the bottom of the garden. Being in Calgary in September, there was always a risk of a sudden change in the weather, and yes it did! We were very fortunate to have the ceremony, cocktails and dinner in dry weather, but the snow fairies wanted some attention. The day after the wedding, we had a major snow storm!

Victoria collected her wedding day accessories from the different cities she traveled to. Her bridal headpiece was from a small boutique along the way, the rings from somewhere else, and it was very cool that almost everything had it’s own story.

For the wedding colours, Victoria wanted a soft palette and an eclectic mixture of ceremony seating and furniture. It worked perfectly for their outside setting. We were so lucky to be able to use some of the beautiful furniture from her parents home, which we mixed in with the gold Chiavari chairs and other statement decor pieces. We draped the ceremony backdrop to hide the stage and the band, and finished the aisle with some rustic lanterns with candles. To glam up the wedding, we used sequinned linens on the cocktail tables and dessert table, and had signature drinks and coloured straws (which were a hit!). The soundtrack was very carefully selected for the entire day as they are a very musical couple.

Despite two trips to the hospital with two different wedding guests the day before, everyone was present on the wedding day and had a great time. The grounds of the house are amazing, inside and out, so there were plenty of spots to capture some great pictures. We are also had the pleasure of meeting their resident cat, who caused some mischief during the setup and tear down (cats love linens!).

Tented weddings are such nice idea, as it is a blank canvas. We decided to keep the grass in the tent to keep the garden feel but still had formal seating and tables. String bistro lights lined the roof of the tent and looked perfect in the evening, when the band and the dance started.

Couldn’t have wished for a more beautiful wedding!
