Pastel Dessert Table Inspiration

I have a confession and I’m willing to bet I’m not alone on this. My name is Alix and I have a sweet tooth (and a savoury tooth, but come on, I’m human!) Chocolate ice cream is my personal poison and I mean the good stuff – locally made, with real ingredients. Call me a purist, perhaps? I love ice cream so much; we served it as dessert at my wedding (along with some delightful pies!) When it comes to deciding on the sugary delights of a wedding menu, the past few years have seen a significant shift. Brides, planners, designers and culinary professionals are exploring their creativity through the desserts they are offering. From macarons to candy buffets to doughnut towers, there are a million and one inventive ways to infuse unique and innovative dessert options in your wedding day.

Which of course, leads us to today’s post. Last summer, Shannon Valente Weddings teamed up with 6:8 Photography, Whippt Desserts and Catering and The Sugar Cube to create one of my all time favourite dessert displays. Designed for a table shoot featured in the Calgary Bridal Guide, Shannon and her team went to work building a confectionary tablescape chicken and waffles top of mind. This team outdid themselves. Using pastel colours like mint, blush and yellow and pairing them with the deep brown of dark chocolate created a decadent visual delight. Paired with decor elements of wood and iron, this shoot at Cherry Creek Estate has taken rustic weddings into a whole new dimension – flirty, lighthearted and fun loving.

Who can resist this tempting array of sweets and treats? Beautiful to look at and I have NO DOUBT that it was even better to eat, this fresh and fun dessert tableau is perfect Spring wedding inspiration. Meet the entire Creative Team after the jump!

The inspiration challenge for this shoot came from the overarching theme of the 2015 edition of the Calgary Bridal Guide, the Anniversary issue. Creatives were tasked with an anniversary gift as their theme, and Shannon Valente was tasked with Wood, Candy and Iron, the traditional gifts for a 6th Wedding Anniversary.

From the magazine:

Fresh and bright, this simplified and elegant take on country charm is both inviting and relaxing. Cast iron and wood decor elements and creative confections create an elegant, yet light-hearted tone.
