Real Calgary Wedding: Rustic Affair from Flowers by Janie

Today, we are so happy to be sharing this beautiful Real Calgary Wedding submitted by Flowers by Janie! This warm, rustic wedding held at Heritage Park was a a bright and beautiful winter day!

My inspiration had a lot to do with the venue, time of year and personal preferences of the bride and groom. Sarah and Darren got married at the Gunn’s Dairy Barn at Heritage Park on November 9, 2013 and were looking to incorporate rustic elements like cotton and wheat into their bouquets and centrepieces to compliment the rustic interior design of their venue. Since the couple planned outdoor photos before the ceremony we opted for more hardy flowers to prevent wilting due to possible cold temperatures as we wanted the bouquets to look fresh for the ceremony. We chose flowers that preserve well and that were resilient to the cold such as eryngium, craspedia, brunia, solidago, gypsophila (baby’s breath), cotton, wheat, pussy willow and scabiosa pods. The combination of these flowers provided a charming rustic, country feel while bringing in the wedding colour palette of yellow through the craspedia and the charcoal through the brunia. The bouquets and boutonnieres were all completed with a twine stem wrap. It was so much fun to use so many different textures of flowers and create something very unique for this wonderful couple!
