A Beachy Edmonton Engagement

Emily and Derek’s beachy Edmonton engagement is a photographer’s dream. They are kind, adventurous, easy going and oh so in love. Emily is an elementary school teacher who has the patience of a saint. Derek is a power lineman who perfectly balances out Emily. Together they adopted sweet little Scout who joined in on our evening together which couldn’t have been more perfect.

While planning their engagement session they let it be known a few times that they were nervous as they haven’t had photos taken together before. Cue my excitement! There is nothing I love more than to have a couple come into our session together with zero experience and leave feeling like a million bucks. The most common phrase I hear before a session is “we are so awkward” and my answer is always “no you aren’t, you just need a little direction and the rest will come naturally.”

These guys have been through it all while planning their wedding. They booked their original wedding date and venue only to have the venue shut down a few months into their wedding planning process. At the same time they were told Scout was sick and wasn’t going to make it. Fast forward a month, a new venue was found, Scout was in fact not sick at all and they were back into the swing of planning. Emily and Derek make the best out of every situation and their wedding is going to be what dreams are made of, mostly because of the genuine people they are.
