From the Creative Team:
Alexandra’s journey into the world of crafting wedding magic began with her mother’s skilled wonders on the sewing machine. Whether it was crafting fantastic Halloween costumes or skillfully altering school uniforms, her mother’s sewing prowess never ceased to amaze her. From a young age, she inherited this passion for sewing, and it had always been her dream to design and create her own wedding dress, much like her mother had done in 1990.
Last summer, after Jaime’s proposal and several months of dedicated effort, Alexandra found herself trying on her mother’s wedding dress one evening. To her astonishment, the dress fit her perfectly! It was as though it had been waiting patiently for this very moment. It was a heartwarming realization that seemed destined to be, with the only necessary alteration being the replacement of the crinoline!
Opting to craft her reception dress instead, she delved into sewing a 1960s-inspired shift dress for their cocktail reception at Proof YYC. She carefully selected the fabric from her favourite fabric store, Blackbird Fabrics in Vancouver. The fabric’s charm harmonized beautifully with the eclectic atmosphere of their chosen venue. It added an extra layer of significance to her creative endeavour.
In the end, Alexandra’s wedding journey took an unexpected and serendipitous turn. Her mother’s wedding dress became a cherished part of the celebration, and her own creation adorned her for the reception. It was a testament to the enduring power of sewing and the profound connection between generations of skilled crafters. Her journey, interwoven with her mother’s legacy in sewing, brought her dream to life in ways she could never have anticipated. This tapestry of love and creativity would forever be etched in her heart.
