Embracing the New Sunrise

Dori and Kevin decide to renew their vows and reaffirm their commitment to one another while embracing a Kelowna sunrise. It has been ten years since they first exchanged vows, and with the rising sun, they embarked on a journey of love, growth, and renewed promises.

Dori is an exceptionally talented calligrapher. She poured her heart into their celebration by handcrafting their vows. To capture the essence of their commitment, we decided to get creative with intentional double-exposure portraits featuring these heartfelt words.

“We meant what we said 10 years ago, but… we needed to clarify some things!” they shared candidly.

Their genuine and beautiful original vows had spoken of becoming better individuals together and loving each other through the best and worst of times. Little did they know back then that these promises would be truly tested along the way.

With a lighthearted chuckle, they confessed, “It was easy for us to say, ‘our relationship makes us better individuals,’ not knowing we would sometimes bring out the monster in each other. Or to say, ‘I promise to love you in the best and worst of times,’ not knowing there would be days it’s difficult to be in the same room with each other.”

Their journey, like any long-lasting marriage, had its ups and downs. It was essential for them to clarify that their love was not immune to mistakes or flaws. But they found strength in their commitment to each other:

They acknowledged marriage was indeed hard work. They were humbled by the understanding that their journey had only just begun, with a lifetime still ahead. It was a testament to their growth and maturity that they approached this renewal with a renewed sense of purpose and an openness to acknowledging their imperfections.

Kevin had been a poet since the early days of their love. When they started dating, he wrote heartfelt poems to express his emotions. Eight years later, his wedding vows were his next poetic masterpiece. And now, ten years after that, he had penned a revised poem, a testament to the evolving love between them.

Their journey was far from over, but as they stood together, their eyes radiated with love, understanding, and an unwavering commitment to one another. The sunrise marked not only a new chapter in their lives but also a chapter filled with wisdom, strength, and a beautiful love that continues to grow with each passing day.
