From the Creative Team:
Beatriz and Douglas had their “modern meets medieval“ wedding atop the scenic terrace of Bistro L’Orygine on a warm fall day. The couple originally planned on getting married in Brazil, but their destination wedding dreams were put to a halt as the pandemic hit in 2020. As an alternative, the couple realized Old Québec City could bring the enchanting micro-wedding of their dreams to life. Laced with intricate details, this luxe wedding was designed to spoil their 20 most intimate family and friends.
The Inspiration:
The ceremony and reception spaces were designed to merge the lines between medieval and modern. Spaces featured dark colours to compliment traces of pampas and dried fall florals. Their ceremony incorporated personal touches like the sword exchange and hand-fasting. The couple adored medieval tales. They had the same craftsman who made Braveheart’s iconic sword create a replica to represent Douglas’ family. Beatriz had one of the only found swords, created for a woman from the Viking era, replicated to represent her family. The exchange was handled by the fathers to their new in-laws.
Hand-fasting is a Celtic ritual of tying the knot around the bride and grooms’ hands which joins them together in love and commitment. The bride’s cord was made of a traditional lace from their island, and the colours represented Beatriz’s native land and culture. The groom’s colourful, crocheted cord was similar to the blankets his mother made for their family.
