From the Creative Team:
When it comes to wedding themes, we love exploring the unexpected. This time, we decided to dive into the vibrant world of the 1980s, but with a unique, modern twist. Imagine the playful exuberance of Memphis Design—a movement known for its bold colours, geometric shapes, and whimsical patterns—blending seamlessly with the opulence and decadence of Marie Antoinette’s court. The result? A wedding that was as unforgettable as it was stylish, right in the heart of Calgary.
A Symphony of Bold Colours and Luxe Details
To bring this vision to life, we carefully curated a palette that combined the electric hues of the 80s with the soft, pastel tones of 18th-century France. Picture pops of neon pink and electric blue against a backdrop of soft lavender and powdery blush. The result was a visual feast that perfectly encapsulated the playful spirit of both eras.
The venue was transformed into a modern-day Versailles with a twist. Think ornate chandeliers juxtaposed with quirky Memphis-inspired decor—zigzagging lines, asymmetrical shapes, and eye-catching patterns were everywhere. Each corner of the space was a delightful surprise, where the opulence of Marie Antoinette’s court met the avant-garde flair of 80s pop culture.
The Bridal Party: “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”
The bridal party was a celebration of friendship and fun, channeling the carefree, spirited energy of Cyndi Lauper’s iconic anthem, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” The bridesmaids donned dresses in a variety of bold, mismatched patterns, all tied together with cohesive pops of colour. Each look was a nod to the playful fashion of the 80s, with oversized bows, puffed sleeves, and layers of tulle, all brought into the present day with a modern, chic edge.
Hair and makeup were equally bold, with each bridesmaid sporting a look that reflected her personality—whether it was a pop of neon eyeliner, a teased-out updo, or a statement lip in a daring shade. The vibe was all about individuality and having fun with fashion, making sure that each member of the bridal party felt like the star of their own show.
A Celebration Like No Other
This wedding was more than just a ceremony—it was a celebration of style, friendship, and the joy of breaking the mold. The unique blend of 80s nostalgia and historical glamour created an atmosphere that was as luxurious as it was lively, a true reflection of the couple’s bold and creative spirit.
By infusing their special day with elements of both Memphis design and Marie Antoinette’s extravagance, the couple managed to create an unforgettable experience for their guests. It was a day where history met modernity, where every detail was carefully considered, and where “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” became more than just a song—it was a mantra for the entire celebration.
