Having a destination wedding in Banff, Canada was not a surprise to our family and close friends. We were looking for a special location that would bring together the most important people in our lives to a beautiful and natural setting. Travel has always been important to us from early on in our relationship. Just 4 weeks after Beth’s sister succeeded in playing matchmaker they were off to Mexico together. Later in their relationship, they travelled for a year to 19 different countries, volunteering and living abroad.
What we valued most on our wedding day was something we learned during our long time away from home- you can be in the most gorgeous place on Earth, but it has no meaning without the ones you love. A week of hiking, whitewater rafting, and exploring other great locations in the the Canadian Rockies with our guests led up to a very unique wedding day. Our ceremony, when standing together out on the Banff Springs Terrace overlooking the picturesque Bow River, while being framed by the majestic peaks and surrounded by 180 of their family members and closest friends, was the perfect union of our lives and a moment we will never forget. What mattered most to them that day was not focusing on ceremony and tradition but simply the union of our families and loved ones…it was apparent in the overwhelming emotions drawn from everyone’s excitement, supportive words & wishes, tears of joy, enthusiasm dancing together (from the debka, lifting the bride & groom on chairs, belly dancing on chairs, “jumping around”, polkaing, to salsa dancing), and then sharing crepes & ice cream at the end of a memorable night.
