Bold and Colourful Prairie Wedding

Amber and Derek’s bold and colourful prairie wedding was filled with love, family (including their two fur babies), and friends. Their celebration stayed true to their personalities and connection.

Amber is a well-known makeup artist and model in the couple’s home city of Edmonton, Alberta. She was asked to model for a styled bridal shoot at a then-unopened wedding venue, The River’s Edge. The venue is located on the owner’s charming family farm overlooking the picturesque North Saskatchewan River. Amber fell in love with the new venue. The owners soon asked if her and Derek’s wedding would be the first wedding the venue hosted. This invitation kick-started their wedding planning and they set a date for May 2022.

The couple wanted their wedding to stray away from the usual trends. Rather, they envisioned the wedding to have plenty of bold and rich colours and unexpected elements. They incorporated deer antlers into their centrepieces and the base of the bride’s cascading bouquet. The couple also opted for vintage mismatched tableware and glassware. According to the bride, these elements created a “Wes Anderson vibe”. Since Amber wanted a non-traditional wedding gown, she enlisted Calgary-based bridal designer NRT Fashions to create her ethereal pink, purple and blue lace with tulle ensemble.

The couple’s sweet private first look among the trees, ceremony overlooking the gorgeous river valley, and dreamy golden hour photos were highlights of an incredible love-filled day.
