Art Deco Wedding by Kingdom Come Photography

Calgary sometimes gets a bad rap for lacking architectural history, but we tend to disagree and today’s Real Wedding from Kingdom Come Photography totally backs up our theory! Calgary is full of wedding venues with one of a kind characteristics and statement architecture.

Jaime and Mike’s New Year’s Eve wedding in the Engineered Arts Theatre at ArtsCommons is as glam as they come, and Joel of Kingdom Come Photography scouted the perfect locations to capture timeless wedding photos. Meet the entire Creative Team after the jump!

When Jaime & Mike first emailed me they said they were getting married in the Engineered Air Theatre on New Year’s Eve and their theme was ‘Art Deco.’ Immediately I got excited by the possibility of having theatre lighting and a stage to shoot with, so much so I had to tell my wife I had agreed to shoot a wedding on our own anniversary (she graciously understood). On December 31st, the sun in Calgary sets ridiculously early and I knew we may end up shooting in the dark. We discussed using it to our advantage by doing some more ‘noir’ type images. Atypical for a wedding but ultimately I assured them they would be dramatic and beautiful. The day came and I couldn’t have been more impressed. The attention to detail was immaculate. Jaime got ready in the theatre’s dressing room complete with art deco mirror lighting. I think I took 700 photos in 45 minutes in that room, I just couldn’t help myself. After the ceremony, I knew that would be the last chance to shoot in the sun so I pulled the newlyweds outside and shot on the street right outside the theatre for ten minutes. When it came time to do the official portraitures, it was already dark and freezing cold. I staged the bridal party setups before collecting winter coats. The group was really understanding and got into it, despite the fact that it was -15 degrees. The Bank & Baron Pub was the perfect venue for delivering Gatsby-esque imagery following it up on historic Stephen Ave, and ultimately the Fairmont. I could go on and on about this wedding but I’ll let the images speak for themselves. I will say though: Gatsby would be proud.
