Finding Your Dream Wedding Dress

When it comes time to start shopping for your wedding dress, a significant amount of time and frustration can be saved by taking a moment to consider your unique body shape. Everyone has a body shape, line and posture that are unique to them. Taking a few minutes to understand your distinct shape and best features will enable you to choose the wedding dress style that compliments your figure in the most flattering way. The best and most objective way to determine your body shape is to receive a consultation at a professional bridal salon. Typical body shapes often referred to in salons are: hourglass, triangle, pear, column, slender, pregnant or rectangle, but terminology varies slightly from place to place.

Select the styles that are most likely to flatter your figure first. Once you have identified your body shape (or have at least a general idea) compare it to the list below of wedding dress styles that are most likely to flatter your figure. This will give you a good starting point for beginning your search, and a better chance of a successful fitting earlier on. Remember to keep an open mind, there is no exact formula for finding the right dress, and if you relax and have fun you might surprise yourself! Look to page 50 of your Calgary Bridal Guide for advice on finding your dream dress.

Bring your wedding undergarments. Whenever possible bring your undergarments with you to your dress fittings and alterations, and wear the same bra you intend to wear on the big day. You will be amazed at how a little support can change your body shape and potentially affect alterations.

Never order a smaller dress size. It is common for many brides to aspire to lose a little weight before their wedding day. Even so, most professionals will strongly discourage you to order your dress in the size you aspire to be. Instead, always order your dress in your current size, or even a little larger. Taking your dress in as needed is no big deal, but letting it out can be disastrous and incredibly stressful

Ask for the help of a representative as soon as possible and tell her about the dress styles that interest you the most. You will find them all listed in the Calgary Bridal Guide directory. This will save a lot of time since consultants are skilled editors when it comes to finding a flattering dress for a specific body type. Remember that there are many factors at play when choosing your gown and it is important to consider them all. Make special note of the neckline, waistline, bodice and sleeves that compliment your figure the most, and make you feel the most confident. Above all – have fun, and keep an open mind! If you let someone with a trained and objective eye help you make your first few selections, you may be surprised by what looks amazing on you!
