Natural Winter Wonderland from Laura MacDonald Photography

I’m feeling spoiled lately by the beautiful winter we’re having. Last week, Calgary got a fresh blanket of snow, and the weather has been just cool enough to keep the city looking pristine and white. There’s still snow on tree branches, and lawns are covered in soft white blankets of powder. We’ve been in a bit of winter wonderland, and (visually speaking!) I’ve loved it. So when these engagement photos from Laura MacDonald Photography came across my desk, they spoke to everything about the last few weeks that I’ve been admiring. Our prairie landscape covered in snow – the texture, the muted colours of the tall grasses and trees and the bright blue sky.

What I love about this set of engagement photos from Laura MacDonald Photography is how she embraced and captured the natural beauty of all of her subjects – Michelle and Richard have been engaged since last Christmas, and together with Laura, they used the natural beauty of Alberta to play a major part of their engagement photos. Richard is originally from England, and together, Laura, Michelle and Richard created a storyboard that would capture the heart of Alberta’s beauty for Richard’s relatives across the pond. Beautiful photos for a beautiful couple – see what the photographer had to say after the jump!

From the photographer:

My inspiration for the shoot was to capture Calgary’s own winter wonderland, and to capitalize on the soft golden light of winter. With Christmas around the corner, and all of the engagements that come with the season I wanted to show case the beauty of the season, and remind couples that that winter is a great time for an engagement session. If you are having a summer wedding it is a chance to have a completely different landscape for your engagement session then what you will have for your wedding. Michelle and Richard were engaged Christmas of 2014, and they wanted their engagement photos to reflect the season they were engaged in. Richard hailing from the United Kingdom also wanted to share our Canadian winter with his family back home. One of my favorite parts of winter is the accessories I get to wear! I always encourage my couples to bring accessories to winter e-sessions (think chunky scarfs, toques, and cozy mittens) the possibilities are endless.
